The key to the FMC, in my opinon, is utilizing Flight Planning software, like FSBuild, which builds the flights based on real world data, and imports it not only to FS9, but also to the software for the FMC. Say your flying SYD- SFO. (After using FSBuild) All you have to do is put YSSYKSFO into the FMC coroute field, and it automatically programs the flight plan. Then it's just a matter of putting in flap settings, ZFW, cost index (you choose), and reserve fuel.

The bloody thing even tells you take-off and landing speeds, and will land the plane for you (which is a good thing if you have FSPassengers and very bad weather).
